christopher foley. our hearts are broken. forever adapted; shaped by the life you lived...you know the one... the one that gave us mercy...and permission to revel in our own rare beauty. the one that inspired compassion. connection. and a fervent love affair with our imaginations.
goodbye is never a word i thought would exist in our exchanged parlance...
..but life is tender. ephemeral and void of absolutes. and so it must be...
but, i must say... how remarkable that you left us with so much... your vision, your music, your authentic splendor. how lucky can one man be... how lucky can we be to have ever experienced more than just one moment to bask in the magnificence that is, was... YOU.
I reviewed the Swells' album, TheWayMarkedWays, upon its release. Chris Foley brought his purity and passion to this album by means of his bass guitar. The review, the album, emblematic of his tender, yet relentless nature...
The Swells
Thewaymarkedways
Calgary Records
by: Krissi S. Reeves
Much to my chagrin, I fell asleep in a recent Mother's Day church service that I was attending solely for the purpose of being a dutiful and agreeable daughter. As the pastor's soothing God-chatter coaxed me into a holy dreamland, my mind drifted to The Swells latest lp, The Waymarkedways. Whether in our darkest moments or our most gleeful states, herds of deity worshippers have sought solace in the matrix of organized religion throughout history. And that's lovely, really. But when I'm in need of an uplift, however, I toss Thewaymarkedways into my CD player. The second effort from the four-piece charm-rockers embodies what spiritual salvation is meant to be. Full of youthful idealism and playground romance, sugary vocals and cherubic guitars, Thewaymarkedways is a finely tuned rock sermon for the misbegotten. From gentle repents to frolicking prayers of love, The Swells have created pop-rock anthems of romantic ideal that leave me flushed with the water-to-wine divinity that most people search a lifetime for. For visual stimulation check out the album's accompanying video, "Through and Through," which dominated the first annual Austin Music Network Video Awards this year, winning Best Over-All Video and Best Experimental Video.
foley... you wil always be my frolicking prayer for...love...for playground romance and youthful idealism...
rest in peace, my friend...
